OUR COMPANY
The Consultant:
Someone who borrows your watch,
tells you the time,
keeps the watch
and charges you for the privilege!
Established more than 25 years ago by Founder and Principal, Adrian Walsh, our organisation has active partnership and collaborative arrangements in Australia, Asia and other parts of the world, enabling us to offer services which are truly international and multi-cultural.
We have always operated on a small central core of highly experienced staff with a comprehensive array of complementary competencies around both private and public sector needs.
Our client base is similarly extensive and represents organisations of all kinds. Automotive and parts manufacture, pharmaceutical manufacture (both human and veterinary), education, employment services, youth affairs, health services, tourism, broadcasting and telecommunications, all feature. Private enterprise, the public sector, and not-for-profits are all represented.
So often, consultancy has a less-than-flattering image. The definition above is perhaps our favourite – and in all honesty, often true. (We have borrowed and kept many “watches” over the past 25 years – but this has been to the benefit of many subsequent clients!. Indeed there are many definitions of the consultant; try a visit to Fun Stuff, where there's several tongue-in-cheek views about consultants!)
Our Philosophy
We have a simple philosophy as we approach all aspects of our business. We aim:
We have a simple philosophy as we approach all aspects of our business. We aim:
To make it possible for you to achieve!
|
We know that in the great scheme of consultancy, we are a relatively small fish in a very big pond. Since our aim is “thrival”, not just “survival”, we have to be very focused on our business approach. The practical application of our philosophy of business is straight forward:
All good words, of course – but we believe in them sincerely!
- First, we differentiate ourselves by a careful customisation of programs and services. One size does not fit all. “Flavour of the month”, pre-packaged products and fads are rarely an exact fit for your organisation’s needs. Our preference is always, from the outset, to understand and define clearly what your current needs and challenges are, and only then to develop a carefully tailored response.
- Second, we are pragmatists. We survive, as individual professionals and as a company, only so long as we consistently add value to the organisations we work with. It doesn’t matter how good the theory sounds, business “solutions” must work for you – for your organisation – or they have no practical value; they are not “solutions” at all. So we always seek to review and evaluate our work against defined relevant success factors and performance indicators. Only then can we know whether what we are doing is succeeding!
- Third, our goal is always to address and resolve the particular issues for which we have been engaged, and at the same time ensure that your organisation and its staff are enriched in knowledge and skill by the experience.
All good words, of course – but we believe in them sincerely!
Working in China

We have been working actively in Asia for a long time. In recent years, however, our activities in China have been growing rapidly. Work in China often takes some interesting and challenging turns. Over recent times we’ve undertaken, or are currently engaged in:
- Market research studies, assisting Chinese manufacturers to understand the Australian market, the potential viability of selling into the Australian domestic market and develop relevant entry strategies.
- Ten day Management-Development Programs for Chinese business senior managers (involving work-experience placements of participants with Australian businesses in similar industries).
- Undertaking a preliminary study to examine the variation in management “styles” and “models” between Western and Chinese organisations. The cultural differences in workplace management are obvious and we will use the study to better inform future management development activity. (If you have an interest in contributing to or accessing the study, we’d love to hear from you.)
- Working with Chinese educational institutions in developing professional relationships with kindred institutions in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. This includes initiatives ranging from student exchange programs, to mutual staff development and exchange and the sale and purchase of Australian courses to be taught in Chinese institutions.
- Supporting and promoting a three-week program in a Chinese institute, for non-Chinese participants to learn and use Chinese characters in communication.
Other work and activities are in prospect as we write.
We would be delighted to explore areas where our experience might assist other organisations and companies – both Western and Eastern! Our growing familiarity with Chinese organisational and management approaches, and the interesting challenges in linking the two very different business worlds, has already proven to be valuable.
