Adrian Walsh & Associates is pleased to represent the NanJing Polytechnic Institute (NJPI) in Australia and the Pacific, for their exciting program, “Learn Magical Chinese in China”. (Note that NJPI was previously named the "Nanjing College of Chemical Technology. The website can be found by following this link.)
The program is focused on support for students already learning, or wishing to develop further their knowledge of, both spoken and written Chinese. It runs for two weeks and includes in-class lessons and external cultural opportunities. Typically, at the end of the program participants can read and write 150-200, and identify around 250 common, Chinese characters. They can use those skills to carry out simple daily communications confidently in spoken and written Chinese.
The program can be extended at minimal cost with a one-week cultural visit to Beijing and Xian.

The program has been used successfully by:
Students at senior secondary school level (typically years 11 and 12) who are studying Mandarin and seeking the opportunity to extend their knowledge and level of competence in speaking, reading and writing Chinese.
Students at tertiary level (in both TAFE/Polytechnic Institutions and Universities) who are studying Mandarin and/or Asian Studies and are seeking an opportunity to enhance their learning experience through a professional cultural immersion (see note below).
Teachers of Chinese (typically in Primary and Secondary schools), who want to extend their own practical skills and abilities in the field.
People whose work requires them to contact, or interact with, Chinese organisations or companies, or their representatives.
Anyone simply wishing to gain or extend their knowledge of Chinese language and culture.
“Learn Magical Chinese in China” is run for two weeks in the January/February period each year, specifically for participants from Australia, New Zealand and the wider Pacific. It is also run in July each year, focused principally on Northern Hemisphere students (although participants from around the world are welcomed to both programs).
Information brochures are available and can be:
Downloaded here for interested Australian participants.
Downloaded here for interested New Zealand participants.
Those who live elsewhere, or anyone who would like to discuss the program, or obtain an application form, should contact us directly here.

Note: Some tertiary institutions enable students in this field to undertake a placement with a Chinese university which will typically provide academic credit for successful completion. Such placements are excellent experiences. The program offered here is different. While not providing formal academic credit at the home institution, it is a shorter, more focused, and usually less costly opportunity for those who cannot, or do not wish to, spend a full semester in China.
