Using BelBin as a Recruitment Tool

Recruitment of staff – as we have already suggested – is a high-stakes gamble.  Small- (and even medium-) sized businesses frequently face higher risks than the bigger organisations because they cannot get easy access to the experts and tools which larger organisations take for granted.

UNTIL NOW!

For the first time, a professional recruitment tool – the BelBin© Team Role Tool (the same one used by many large companies) is available to every organisation at a fraction of the price you will pay a recruitment agency.

How Does It Work?

Everybody brings two things to a job:

1.      Competence (a combination of knowledge, skills and experience).

2.      Personality and attitude.

People with the right competence, but the wrong personality and attitude, almost always “fail to fit” in the work place. It is this fit failure, more than anything else, which results in the high failure rate of new hires.

The Belbin© Team Role Profiling Tool allows you and other staff who will work with a new staff member to describe exactly the sort of person you believe will be successful in your vacant job. Profiles of competent applicants are then compared. The resulting report gives you solid advice as to the likelihood of an applicant meeting your particular needs.

BelBin© is simple and effective with most types of staff, and for both internal and external appointments. Now you can improve your ability to get the right personality and attitude in your new staff members – first time, every time!

What’s Involved?

Step 1:

Our trained practitioner visits your workplace and assists you to complete a Job Profile questionnaire. This usually takes about 30 minutes. At the same time, several co-workers fill out a separate “tick-sheet” profile about the qualities they believe are important in the job occupant.

Step 2:

A profile of the ideal occupant is produced – based on the information you and your staff have provided. This information can be used in a job vacancy advertisement and/or provided to job applicants at the time of enquiry or initial interview.

Step 3:

You complete a short-list of applicants for the job and have each of them1 complete BelBin© profiling forms.

Step 4:

A personal report is produced and provided to each of the short-listed applicants1. At the same time, a report, showing the predicted match of each of the applicants against the Job Profile, is provided to you. Our practitioner works with you – in your workplace – to ensure that you have a clear understanding of the report and its implications, and to help you with the final selection.

  1. Individuals – whether or not they get the job – usually find the personal profile valuable advice. Everyone wins!
